What Goes on Behind the Photo Booth Curtain Stays Behind the Photo Booth Curtain…

…Until you get the copies.

One of my favorite wedding trends is the photo booth. All of our locations now offer photo booth as a service. I love watching how they get used throughout the night. It always starts slow, with a couple of tentative people maybe putting on a silly hat and smiling at the camera. As the night progresses more people start to get involved, packing groups of old friends into the booth, making faces. By the end of the night it’s total mayhem with random people who never met before your wedding (like your second cousin and your fiance’s fiend from work) in Viking helmets and feather boas posing like Charlie’s Angels. Here are some reasons why I think this trend is here to stay:

1) Great Pictures: Photo booths give you the opportunity to capture some great candid shots of your wedding guests that you would never have gotten if they weren’t behind a curtain. All your other pictures will be pretty formal, but the photo booth pictures are the exact opposite. They are a great addition to your wedding memories.

2) Better Favors: The photo booth pictures can be used in place of other party favors. For your guests, these pictures more personal than a traditional favor. They are also much easier for the bride than traditional favors because there is no assembly and you don’t have to store or transport anything ahead of time. You (and your bridesmaids) won’t have to tie 150 tiny little bows around 150 tiny boxes and then stick 150 monogrammed stickers on them two weeks before your wedding.

3) More Fun: Not everyone will dance all night long, and a photo booth gives guests something to do other than sit at a table or the bar. It keeps people moving around the room, which creates a lively atmosphere at your reception. Best of all, the photo booth brings people together – what better way to start a conversation than over a section of fake mustaches, clown noses or sailor hats?

If you are a creative, DIY bride, don’t shy away from the photo booth just because it’s popular. Personalize your photo booth by getting your own collection of props. Mini chalk boards and chalk, hats and accessories in your colors or that represent different phases in you and your fiancé’s lives are great ways to put your own spin on this growing trend.
